UI and Doll Redesign.


Spent the day working on a new UI to reduce clutter and add some more new features that will help in editing characters.  Here it is in action:



New Additions:

  • Anchor Snap - added anchor points to various parts of the doll that will snap doll parts to anchors whenever it gets close.
  • Move - drag the icon to move the doll parts.
  • Layer Order - changes which part is overlapping to another.
  • Drag green border to relocate interface.

The others are pretty much self explanatory. This change allows me to add flexibility  and diversity with the dolls. Got a comment asking if I could do children and elderly, and I pretty much said no since some parts tucks in pretty tight with the face and body. These new options should allow me to implement different body types into the doll, but  I pretty much have to redo most of my assets reflect these changes.

I dropped line glow and the inner and outer colors as they pretty much emulate what overlay is doing.

Finally got the hang of shaders. I could atleast emulate generic layer effects now, and I will be relying on them to compose my layers instead of just using nodes to layer raw images on top of each other.  Here's a cool one I came up with when highlighting parts.


This is the new system that I came up with.

I basically need divide head features further  to allow different parts to overlap independently. No awkward cuts for the ear means I can use them for different head shapes. Made a series of quick sketches to see how it would work using edited old assets, also included a new body type with some long ears:

Yep, some outfits meshes well enough with just a quick resize. But the others that clung to tightly to the body are out. May need to adjust posture for the male as it kind of leans forward awkwardly.  Also gonna add some Lalafell specific clothing so it would fit the chibi theme more as they tend to wear bulky clothes.

Anyway that's it for me today. Will still be updating program in monday with the new hairstyles I drew. Hopefully by next  week Monday I could implement the new system into the program and see it in action.
